ITALY TRAVEL DIARY: NAPLES & POMPEII

IMG_5490

On the fourth day in Italy our journey continued by train to Napoli. Our ride went really well just admiring countryside views and we were in there around two in the afternoon. I can really recommend using the train to move around in Italy because it is really cheap and the trains are really well cared. I only wish we had fast trains like that here in Finland, but no. After the train trip we headed straight away to our hotel which was Covo degli Angioini and we were excited to see it because it was supposed to be five stars hotel. Well you can probably guess how it turned out... Seriously I've never been in such a crappy hotel before but luckily we were there only for one night.

Unfortunately Naples won't get to my list of favorite cities from what we have seen and experienced in one day. The food was really good but other than that the city seemed like really poor and a little bit slum'ish. Garbages and graffitis were everywhere, the buildings were not so pretty and the whole environment seemed a bit trashy. I've actually heard other people saying the same things but I just needed to see it myself before I can make my own opinion. During that one day we ate the best meal so far in Trattoria Castle Nuovo, walked by the harbor taking pictures, went to see Castle Nuovo and took some evening snack back to hotel room. Later on the evening we also packed our stuff ready to head out tomorrow to the next city.

As you can probably tell by the pictures our next destination was Pompeii! Tickets were only seven euros and the place was just massive and we could have easily spent there the whole day. I would have gladly paid more money for the tickets because the place was absolutely the best and the most interesting where we went. I really recommend to go there by train because it is the easiest and the most cheapest option. We paid couple euros more to have train with air condition and also with the same ticket we were able to go to Sorrento as well which I will tell you about later. That ticket cost like under twenty euros so it was really cheap.
For starters when we arrived to Pompeii we left our luggage to storage and headed to the entry. We had time to explore around about four hours before our train would arrive and still we ran out of time. There were just so much to see and my camera was like glued to my hand during all that time. On that area there were also a big restaurant where you could buy some food and drinks.  There were also many water taking points in the area which were a must during that hot day.

Before heading to the next city we went to have some cold drinks on some restaurant near by and took our luggage back from the storage. We were really hungry already by then but we just didn't have the time to eat there so we decided to wait and eat in Sorrento. That was probably the best decision ever and we got to enjoy it for the rest of our holiday. More about that on my next travel post!
